Lawrence K. Masha Sr.

Chairman / Partner

Lawrence K. Masha, the Chairman of the Lyson Group, was Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs from 2008 to 2010. He is the holder of an LL.M from the Georgetown University Law Center and an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam. Mr. Masha has over 25 years of experience in legal practice, government service and corporate leadership.

Mr. Masha, a founding and former Managing Partner of two of Tanzania’s leading law firms, IMMMA Advocates (A member of DLA Piper Africa) and Gabriel and Co, Attorneys at Law, took a five year sabbatical from private practice when he became an elected MP and joined the Cabinet of H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete initially as Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals and later as Minister for Home Affairs. Prior to founding IMMMA Advocates, Mr. Masha was Managing Director of Tanzania Oxygen Limited, the first Company to be listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange.

Mr. Masha currently oversees the Firm’s General Corporate Practice and specializes in banking and finance, natural resource law, immigration law and general corporate practice. In addition to the foregoing, he also handles government relations on behalf of the Firm’s corporate clientele.

Mr. Masha is licensed to practice both on Mainland Tanzania and Tanzania Zanzibar, and was consistently ranked as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers and Partners prior to joining Government service.
