Lawrence K. Masha, the Chairman of the Lyson Group, was Tanzania's Minister for Home Affairs from 2008 to 2010. He holds an LL.M from the Georgetown University Law Center and an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam, with over 25 years of experience across legal practice, government service, and corporate leadership.
Background
Mr. Masha is a founding and former Managing Partner of two of Tanzania's leading law firms — IMMMA Advocates (a member of DLA Piper Africa) and Gabriel and Co. Attorneys at Law. He took a five-year sabbatical from private practice when he was elected MP and joined the Cabinet of H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, initially as Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals and later as Minister for Home Affairs. Before founding IMMMA Advocates, he served as Managing Director of Tanzania Oxygen Limited — the first company to list on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange.
Current Practice
At LLG, Mr. Masha oversees the firm's General Corporate Practice and specialises in banking and finance, natural resource law, immigration law, and general corporate matters. He also handles government relations on behalf of the firm's corporate clientele.
Recognition
Mr. Masha is licensed to practice both on Mainland Tanzania and in Zanzibar, and was consistently ranked as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers and Partners prior to joining government service.
